Mandatory tribal research review for any health or health-related research within Navajo Nation jurisdiction. The board meets monthly, and its approval is the gate that lets a Navajo-based study exist at all.

- Any investigator or entity conducting health or health-related research in Navajo Nation territorial jurisdiction must submit a protocol. Submission requires one original plus twelve collated copies delivered to the NNHRRB office by 5:00 PM on the posted submission date; a university IRB approval alone does not substitute.
