P.E.O. Scholar Awards

P.E.O. International

Merit-based awards for women pursuing doctoral-level degrees at accredited U.S. and Canadian institutions, established in 1991. Field-agnostic, so social work and social welfare doctoral candidates are eligible, and the award functions as unrestricted support for the dissertation year.

Indicative award
Not a cash award (not a cash award)The eligibility and application page does not publish an award figure, so no amount is recorded here. Widely cited maximums were not confirmed on the funder page and are therefore omitted.
Timing
Annual cycleAnnual cycle · Aug, Sep, Oct, NovNo specific published date recorded. This funder publishes a cycle rather than a date, and this database does not invent one.Annual. The chapter nomination period runs from August 20 to November 20 each year; each nominee then has 45 days to complete the online application, and all nominees are notified of award status by May 1. There is no single published applicant-facing deadline, so nextDeadline is null.

Eligibility
The binding gate is nomination: all applicants must be nominated by a local P.E.O. chapter — a candidate cannot self-apply, and must find a sponsoring chapter first. The nominee must be a woman, a citizen or legal permanent resident of the U.S. or Canada at the time of nomination, enrolled at an accredited U.S. or Canadian college or university, with at least one full academic year of work remaining and within two years of her graduation date.
