Pathway to Stop Diabetes
The ADA's flagship long-horizon award for early-career diabetes scientists, pairing multi-year unrestricted-style funding with senior mentorship. ADA describes the program as supporting innovative basic, clinical, translational, epidemiological, behavioral or health services research relevant to any diabetes type or complication, which admits diabetes self-management, care-delivery and behavioral work.

- Institutional nomination is required and each U.S. institution may nominate at most two candidates, so a researcher cannot apply directly. Applicant must be authorized to work in the U.S. or its possessions and hold a full-time appointment at the sponsoring institution. Initiator Award: currently in a postdoctoral or research fellowship position, no more than seven years past the terminal degree, and may not hold a concurrent NIH K99/R00. Accelerator Award: early-career faculty with a demonstrated independent record, who may hold initial independent NIH funding but must not have renewed an R01
