NWO Talent Programme – Veni (Social Sciences and Humanities)

Dutch Research Council (NWO)

Veni is the entry rung of the Netherlands' flagship personal-grant ladder (Veni–Vidi–Vici), giving a recently graduated PhD three years of protected funding to pursue research of their own choosing. The SSH round covers pedagogics, sociology, psychology, public administration, development studies, law, demography and related fields, so social work questions are squarely in scope. The award is to the individual and is designed to buy independence early, before an academic career has hardened around someone else's agenda. Two-stage: pre-proposal, then full application and interview.

Eligibility
Open to researchers of any nationality, but the grant must be hosted by an eligible Dutch research institution that provides a letter of support — a non-Dutch applicant applies through a Dutch host, not their own institution. The PhD must have been obtained within three years before 1 January 2026, or between that date and 2 September 2026; recognised extensions (care, illness, clinical training) apply. Tenured status does not disqualify.
