NIH Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program, Phase I and Phase II (R43/R44)
National Institutes of Health (NIH SEED / America's Seed Fund)
R&D funding for US small businesses developing health-related products — including digital health tools, behavioral and services technologies. Phase I establishes feasibility; Phase II supports full development toward commercialization. The current parent announcements are PA-27-100 (SBIR) and PA-27-101 (Phase IIB).

- Applicant must be a US for-profit small business with no more than 500 employees including affiliates, more than 50% owned and controlled by US citizens or permanent residents (or, for SBIR only, by venture capital, hedge fund or private equity firms). R&D must be performed entirely in the United States, and the PI must have primary employment (more than 50% time) with the small business. A university-based social work researcher participates as a subcontractor, not the applicant.
