JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship for Research in Japan (Standard)
Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS)
A 12 to 24 month funded postdoctoral fellowship placing an overseas researcher with a host researcher at a Japanese university or research institute, explicitly open to all fields of the humanities and social sciences. The host applies on the fellow's behalf and can separately seek a Grant-in-Aid for JSPS Research Fellow to cover the cooperative research costs, so the fellowship carries both salary-equivalent support and a route to project money. A viable path for a social work researcher pursuing comparative or Japan-focused work on ageing, family policy or welfare systems.

- Eligibility
- The candidate must be a citizen of a country with diplomatic relations with Japan and must not be a Japanese citizen or permanent resident. The doctoral degree must have been obtained within six years of the fellowship start date, or be expected by that date; the six-year window can be extended for maternity or parental leave. Prior JSPS postdoctoral fellowship recipients are ineligible. Applications are submitted by a Japan-based host researcher affiliated with a MEXT-eligible institution and qualified to apply for KAKENHI; a host may submit up to three applications.
