Small seed grants for direct research expenses on the scientific study of religion, judged primarily on intellectual merit. Well suited to social work researchers studying religion's role in health, help-seeking, family life or community organisation. Funds are transferred to the principal investigator's institution and no indirect cost recovery is permitted.

Eligibility
Applicant must hold a completed Ph.D. and be an active SSSR member (membership in the society is a hard gate). For co-authored proposals at least one author must hold both the Ph.D. and SSSR membership. Grants are normally paid to the PI's university unless alternative arrangements are negotiated in advance.
