A free, unified longitudinal database of federal civil, criminal, bankruptcy, and appellate case filings and terminations from 1970 to the present, downloadable in full with codebooks — the standard backbone for quantitative federal court research.

- No application, no eligibility screen, no cost. Anyone can download the datasets in SAS or tab-delimited format or use the interactive tool. The FJC's statutory role includes promoting empirical court study by outside persons and entities. Limits are substantive rather than administrative: the data covers only what courts routinely report to the Administrative Office, and the reporting period definition changed in 1993 from a July–June statistical year to the federal fiscal year.
