The exploratory tier of NHGRI's three-part ELSI suite, sized between the R03 and the R01. It supports investigation of novel ideas, new model systems, tools or methods for studying how genomics affects individuals, families, communities and society — the place to take a risk that would not survive R01 review for lack of preliminary data.
