Commonwealth Universal Research Enhancement (CURE) Program

Pennsylvania Department of Health

CURE was created by Act 77 Chapter 9 of 2001 and is Pennsylvania's tobacco-settlement-funded health research programme. It runs two award streams each year: formula grants, distributed non-competitively to institutions in proportion to their existing NIH or NCI funding, and nonformula grants awarded through a competitive process. A formula grant may support several projects at once, and eligible project types explicitly include health services research and patient-oriented clinical investigation alongside basic biomedical work, which is the doorway for social work health-services researchers a

Amount not published (varies by call)No amounts are published on the grants page; formula allocations are calculated from an institution's NIH funding share and nonformula awards are set by the competitive solicitation.
Timing
Annual cycleNo specific published date recorded. This funder publishes a cycle rather than a date, and this database does not invent one.Two grant categories are offered annually. The grants page carries award lists from past years but no active RFA or deadline dates; the Department directs enquiries to its research office.
Who can apply
Postdoctoral, Early-career faculty, Mid-career & senior, Any faculty rank
Eligibility
All recipients must have their primary research location within Pennsylvania. Formula grants are available only to institutions already receiving National Institutes of Health or National Cancer Institute funding, so an individual researcher accesses them through their institution's internal allocation process rather than by applying to the state. Nonformula grants are competitively bid.
