CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation
A member-led and member-resourced granting mechanism inside the CIVICUS alliance, designed to move small amounts of money to constituency-led groups that structurally cannot reach institutional donors. Priority goes to organisations of women, youth, people with disabilities, LGBTIQ+ people, labour groups, Indigenous peoples and rural communities, and to applicants in countries the CIVICUS Monitor rates closed, repressed or obstructed — which covers much of francophone West Africa and the Sahel. - Applicant must hold CIVICUS voting or associate membership and must be constituency-led — leadership drawn from the community served. The group must belong to one of the prioritised constituencies (women, youth, people with disabilities, LGBTIQ+, labour, Indigenous peoples, rural communities) and must demonstrate real difficulty accessing funding because of government restriction or donor requirements. Previous recipients of this grant are ineligible. Activities must be completed within 12 months. This is not a university grant: a social work researcher reaches it only through a CIVICUS-member
