CIVICUS Crisis Response Fund
CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation
A rolling rapid-response fund for civil society facing sudden restriction, supporting both advocacy responses to unexpected civic-space closures and resiliency or emergency measures for groups under immediate threat. Applications are accepted year-round with no fixed deadline, and funded activities run three to six months. Coalitions of two or more co-applicants can request a larger budget than a single organisation. For social work research this is the instrument that keeps a community research partner operating — security, legal defence, organisational resilience — when a coup, a new NGO law
- Indicative award
- $10k–$20k (total award)The page gives maximum budgets of approximately USD 10,000 for an individual organisation and approximately USD 20,000 for a coalition of two or more co-applicants. These are ceilings, not typical awards — the recorded minimum is the single-organisation ceiling, not a floor.
- Timing
- Rolling / openNo specific published date recorded. This funder publishes a cycle rather than a date, and this database does not invent one.Applications are accepted year-round on a rolling basis and reviewed continuously; the page states there are no fixed submission deadlines. Funded activities last three to six months.
- Who can apply
- Community organisation, Practitioner
- Eligibility
- Open to formal or informal civil society groups, organisations and social movements working to expand civic and democratic freedoms — registration is not required, so unregistered collectives can apply. Applications must show either an urgent threat to civic freedoms or an imminent organisational risk requiring security measures; this is not a general project fund. Coalitions apply with two or more co-applicants. A university is not the natural applicant here: the grantee is the threatened civil society actor, and an academic partner participates through that organisation.
