AHA Institutional Research Enhancement Award (AIREA)
Small-scale research project funding for faculty at teaching-focused colleges and universities that have not been major NIH recipients, covering the full range of basic, clinical and population research on cardiovascular disease and brain health while giving students exposure to research. A realistic capacity-building route for social work faculty at non-research-intensive institutions.

- The gate is institutional: the college or university must grant baccalaureate or advanced degrees and must not have been a major recipient of NIH support. AHA applies the same institutional eligibility criteria the NIH uses for its AREA and REAP (R15) awards — institutions ineligible for NIH AREA or REAP are also ineligible here.
